Tuckpointing or a rebuild: how we call it in Kansas City

A lot of calls start the same way: the brick looks tired, the joints are receding, and someone already quoted a full rebuild. DeepFix walks the wall before we pick a method. Kansas City weather — freeze, thaw, wind-driven rain — does not treat every wall the same.

When tuckpointing is enough

If the units are sound, the wall is plumb, and the failure is in the joints, we cut out the dead mortar and put back a mix that matches the original — sand, binder, color. Lime where the work was built in lime. That is tuckpointing. It is not a smear coat. It is not a weekend patch.

• Brick faces are intact — no heavy spall, no units you can pull by hand
• No bulge, lean, or stepped crack that says the wall already moved
• Water is not sitting in the assembly with nowhere to go

When the wall needs to come down

If the brick is spalled through the face, the wall has shifted, or the backup is wet and rotten, grinding joints will not hold it. We take out the failure and rebuild it once — matched materials so the repair disappears, same standard on a stoop or a full elevation.
